THE ANTIQUES DEALERS FAIR LIMITED Luxury ANTIQUES WEEKEND
Linden Hall
29 Feb ? 2 March 2008 A new glamorous art and antiques event will be launched by The Antiques Dealers Fair Limited early in 2008. The Luxury Antiques Weekend will be held at Linden Hall, Longhorsley, near Morpeth in Northumberland from Friday 29th February to Sunday 2nd March 2008.
Twenty-four leading dealers from across the country, all members of BADA or LAPADA, will be showcasing their very best range of stock, all carefully vetted, to ensure an event of the highest quality where visitors can buy with confidence. Oil and watercolour paintings, town and country furniture, clocks, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, oriental carpets, antique lighting, maps and prints will all be for sale with prices ranging from ?100 to ?250,000.
With the Fair opening on 29th February, traditionally known as Leap Year Day, exhibitors have been invited to include items of a romantic theme, entitled ?A Celebration of Romance? such as an Austrian marriage chest (?2,250) from Wakelin & Linfield. The chest (pictured overleaf) is decorated with a heart on the central panel and still retains its original green paint and date - 1834. Norfolk Decorative Antiques has a heart-shaped Murano glass chandelier (pictured overleaf), made in the mid-1950s (?3,500). From Georgian Antiques of Edinburgh comes a Victorian oak lovers? sofa with a heraldic carved cartouche, c 1860 (?4,000).
Jewellery includes a heart-shaped pink tourmaline ring, surrounded by diamonds (?3,800) from Plaza, who are also bringing a platinum and diamond pendant/brooch set with heart-shaped opals (pictured overleaf), c 1920 (?2,800). Historically, opals are the stone of fidelity and hope and Queen Victoria gave one to each of her daughters on their wedding day. Silver dealer, Nicholas Shaw Antiques has a George II two-handled silver loving cup made in Newcastle, 1740-41, by Isaac Cookson (?1,350) and a Victorian silver butter piggin (pictured), 1871-72 (?950) by C J Reid, also a Newcastle silversmith.
F J & R D Story Longcase Clocks have a rare longcase clock (?17,500) made by John Cheesebrough of Penrith (pictured), c 1720, who was one of the earliest Cumberland clockmakers. Graham Smith Antiques of Newcastle upon Tyne is bringing a late 19th century French style mahogany and parquetry inlaid table with ormolu mounts (?5,400). Specialists in north-eastern impressionist paintings, T B & R Jordan from Stockton on Tees are bringing ?Confidences? (pictured) signed by Robert Jobling (1841-1943), (?16,950). Jobling was President of Newcastle?s Bewick Club and a member of both the Cullercoats Colony and the Staithes Group. It is thought that ?Confidences? was no. 169 in the Bewick Club 5th Annual Exhibition in 1888.
John Nicholson and Dunelm Fine Art have a dramatic oil on canvas of Llyn Crafnant in North Wales by Alfred F. De Breanski (?7,995) and a spectacular watercolour ?Glenshee from Devils Elbow? signed and dated by T.M. Richardson Jnr, which was exhibited at The Royal Watercolour Society in 1853.
Organiser, Ingrid Nilson says of the venue, ?Linden Hall is a magnificent Georgian house in a very picturesque setting with wonderful facilities and free parking. Now run as a hotel with a golf and country club, it is within easy access of the A1 and only 25 minutes drive from Newcastle airport. It provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to spend a day out shopping for fine art and antiques or even enjoying a whole luxury weekend away?.
