National house builder David McLean Homes is asking – could
the bungalow be the new apartment, an ideal home for the astute young
professional that is looking for a stylish, easily manageable living
space, but without the exorbitant price tag that comes with city
apartment living? The bungalow is a unique aspect of British suburban life that
unfortunately seems to have stayed stuck well and truly in the last
century. A reputation for being homely and somewhat glib, with
doilies and chintz more likely to feature prominently in the owners’
interior scheme than laminate flooring and frosted glass coffee
tables, has positioned the bungalow as the home of choice for the
UK’s growing community of pensioners.
On the flipside, it seems that younger buyers are increasingly
being attracted toward buying apartments – as rising prices
dictate smaller living spaces for first time and younger buyers, many
younger people now feel that a family home with a garden is out of
their reach for their first home purchase.
However, David McLean Homes, a developer that is gaining a
reputation for thinking outside the box (shaped apartment) believes
that the bungalow offers the perfect solution for a growing number of
first timers that want apartment affordability and convenience, but
also the peaceful space and tranquillity afforded by your own back
garden.
To test this theory out, the developer has built a number of
bungalows at its’ Wythen Park development in Morda, near
Oswestry, and fitted the interiors in a particularly modern style.
Featuring sleek kitchens with modern walnut and white finishes,
ultramodern bathrooms in chrome and white tiling, and features such
as recessed halogen spot lighting and laminate flooring, the
bungalows have been clearly designed toward the tastes of younger
buyers.
One buyer that has taken advantage of the different approach to
bungalows at Wythen Park, is Curtis Williams. The 28 year old
landscaper is originally from South London, and decided to buy a
Wythen Park bungalow because it not only offered the stylish
contemporary look he wanted in his first home, but also offered a
peaceful change from the hustle and bustle of the city:
“As exciting as London is, the quality of life here in
Shropshire is much higher. I love mountain biking, and the area
around Oswestry really allows me to indulge my passion. I really
liked how the bungalow has an apartment feel, but I still get all the
luxuries of a house such as a garden and parking space – it’s
much easier to manage than a large house. Wythen Park is only a mile
from Oswestry too, so we’re not isolated here - it’s easy
to pop out for a few drinks on a Saturday night too.”
“It never even occurred to me until I moved in that a
bungalow was seen as a home for older people – I’ve taken
a little bit of stick from my mates for it, but the price and deals
that David McLean gave me to help with my deposit and stamp duty have
allowed me to finally get onto the property ladder, so I’m not
too bothered!”
David McLean Homes is showcasing Wythen Park as a development that
brings together the best of country style and convenient modern
living in a unique and striking combination, all with parking. The
bungalows at Wythen Park offer apartment style living, but with more
space, a garden, and no noisy neighbours above, below, or in the next
room to you!
Situated just outside Oswestry on Trefonen Road, with close links
to the nearby trunk roads, Wythen Park offers the ideal place to
enjoy the benefits of a countryside lifestyle. However, it enjoys a
location close enough to commute to all of the major towns in the
region freely and easily by the A495/A5 junction, just over a mile
away.
Jenny Clarke, Sales Manager for David McLean Homes Midlands
comments: “I would say to first time buyers, why not?? There’s
nothing old or stuffy about the bungalows we’ve built at Wythen
Park – they are quality, stylish homes, and offer a spacious
alternative to the apartment, at a very similar, down to earth price.
The fact that you get a garden for that price too is definitely a
plus point.
“I don’t think any twentysomething first time buyers
could be accused of being old and out of touch, if they’re
making their first step onto the ladder in such a grand fashion. Just
as long as no doilies see the light of day, I’m sure their
street cred will be unspoiled!”
Four bungalows remain on the development, with prices starting at
£159,995 for a two bedroom bungalow with parking. For more
information on the scheme call David McLean’s onsite sales team
